Ever since MEC.conf concluded successfully, we from FOSSMEC were determined to arrange another Devsprints event to pique the interest of the students within our institution.

Devsprints is a coding sprint where contributors add value (by adding features or fixing bugs) to existing open source projects — in contrast to Hackathons, where the objective is to create a remarkable product from scratch within a time frame.

Over the span of a month or two, we charted out the event and collaborated with Excel 2019 — the annual techno-managerial fest of our institution. We considered a few open source organizations to partner with and finally settled for the following:

  1. Debian (Mentor: Abhijith)
  2. Habitica (Mentor: Ajesh)
  3. IndicNLP (Mentor: Adam and Kamal)
  4. Processing Foundation (Mentor: Jithin and Anupam)
  5. Data Version Control (Mentor: Kurian)

Here are the pictures from the sessions:

Students gained exposure to numerous projects and understood how their contributions can add value to the open cause. We are grateful to our mentors and hope they gain future valuable contributors to their projects.
